Babyface Ray Detroit Concert reviews
Great Performance; Poor Venue
The concert lasted a full 4 hours without a break, and they played most of their major hits after completing the full River double-album. The Boss has lost little since I saw Babyface Ray on the original River tour in the same venue 36 years ago. Wonderful show. His energy is boundless, and the E Street Band is still the best group of musicians in the business. I have to confess that the River wasn't my favorite of Bruce's albums, but I'm now re-listening to many of the songs in a more understanding way. We all miss Clarence terribly, but Jake was phenomenal!
I have to comment on the aging Key Arena though. Very poor acoustics. The sounds system is terrible. Maybe it's just where we sat (far back, straight on to the stage, just below the suites), but the sound was garbled, brassy and the volume generally drowned out the vocals. Key Arena needs a re-do.
